A return visit to make use of the laundry facilities before travelling to Fetlar tomorrow for a couple of days via two ferries. Like our previous visit we arrived under leaden skies prior enjoying a brighter end to the day.
A community run site offering EHU, water and emptying facilities in the grounds of their local hall.
A circular walk today from Isbister to the most northerly point on Shetland Mainland via the old fishing station of Fethaland.
Wilding alongside the light tonight surrounded by stacks, geos, coves and blow holes including the collapsed cave Calder’s Geo which reaches 300m inland.
A look around the visitor centre which was being built on our first visit and an opportunity to check on the puffins which had recently arrived. Like much of the wildlife hereabouts they face increasing challenges due to climate change and plastic waste.
A remarkable prehistoric archaeological site on which you could actually enter the ruins. An amazing insight into the buildings people lived in over the ages.
Crossed the tombolo for a walk around the island passing the old chapel we visited on our first trip to Shetland. Stayed overnight undisturbed until the local farmer rode by on her quad bike to check the sheep on the island.
Overnight ferry from Kirkwall to arrive at a very wet Lerwick. Found this site alongside a marina for our first night in Shetland.
